Loek Bos

Loek Bos is a well-known sculptor from The Hague, his work can also be found in public spaces. Examples include the statue of Aad Mansveld or The Lamplighter, both in The Hague. But he also made the life-size statue of Toon Hermans in Sittard. In addition to sculpting, Loek Bos also paints and draws.

He depicts many people in their daily activities. Think of a lady on a bicycle, or in a bath. A lawyer, violinist or just a gardener, almost always with a humorous and sometimes mischievous wink. Animals are also part of Loek Bos's repertoire.

Loek Bos's father maintains the Museum of Reproductions of Sculpture, founded in 1920, at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. This is how he came into contact with classical art at an early age.

When he was at the Academy himself, Loek Bos learned a lot from painter and enameler Go de Kroon, but also from Bram Roth and Ber Mengels. In 1976 he obtained the teaching certificates MO-A and MO-B and started teaching at the Rijnlands Lyceum Sassenheim. He held his first solo exhibition in The Hague and his first group exhibition in Delft, together with Ineke van der Burg, Theo Jansen, Jan Nikkels, Aris Roskam, Chris van Tol and Maarten van Welbergen. In 1977 he became a working member of the Haagsche Kunstkring.

In 1990, Loek Bos stopped teaching and became an independent artist. In addition to commissioned work, he also made many small sculptures.

In 1998, Bos became a member of Pulchri Studio, in 2003 he became its chairman and in 2003 and 2006 he held an exhibition there.
