Considering Selling an Artwork?
Are you considering selling a painting, sculpture, or other artwork? I am interested in distinctive works and invite you to get in touch without obligation. Kunstiek specialises in original and signed works by Dutch and Belgian artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.
In many cases, I purchase works directly. When consignment is more appropriate, I carefully manage the sale and position the work strategically within the market and among my network of collectors.
I buy and broker paintings, watercolours, drawings, prints, and bronze sculptures. For an initial assessment, I kindly ask you to provide clear photographs of the front and back of the work, including the signature, along with any available information about provenance and history.

Purchase, consignment or advice
After receiving the information, I will let you know whether the work fits within Kunstiek’s area of interest and collection. If a direct purchase may be possible, I will also assess whether your asking price is workable for Kunstiek. If consignment seems more suitable, I will be happy to discuss the options with you. If neither is appropriate, I may be able to advise you on an alternative way to sell the work.
Quality
I work selectively and assess each artwork based on the artist, quality, condition, and current market demand. How well the work fits my collection also plays a role.
Sell directly or through consignment
If a direct purchase is suitable and your price expectation is in line with what is workable for Kunstiek, I will be happy to discuss the purchase with you.
Once an agreement has been reached, I purchase the work directly from you and the sale is completed. Kunstiek then takes care of the presentation, positioning and subsequent sale of the artwork.
If consignment is more suitable, you remain the owner of the artwork until it is sold. We agree in advance on the asking price, your proceeds, Kunstiek’s commission and the duration of the consignment period. Kunstiek then takes care of the presentation, promotion, communication with potential buyers and the completion of the sale.
All arrangements are recorded in a clear agreement. Consignment is offered on a no cure, no pay basis: commission is only charged upon successful sale.

If I am interested, I would be pleased to discuss the work with you personally. When we reach an agreement, I will of course also arrange a viewing appointment.
All information is handled with discretion and care. If a work does not fall within my area of interest, I will explain this clearly and, if desired, advise you on alternative selling options.
Frequently asked questions about selling art
Is my artwork a good fit for Kunstiek?
I mainly look for work by Dutch and Belgian artists of the twentieth century: paintings, works on paper, prints and bronze sculptures. Feel free to send me photographs. You will usually hear within two working days whether the work fits my collection.
What does it cost to sell through Kunstiek?
If I buy your artwork outright, you pay nothing: you receive the amount we agreed. With consignment, you only pay commission if the work sells. It is usually between 20 and 35 per cent of the sale price. We agree the exact percentage in advance, because it depends on how the work is sold: online, through my network of collectors or at an art fair.
Should I sell at auction or through Kunstiek?
That depends on the work and on what matters to you. At auction, you do not know beforehand what the work will fetch. If you sell directly to me, you know where you stand: we agree on an amount and you are paid straight away.
Can you tell me what my artwork is worth?
Yes, if you are considering selling it to me or offering it on consignment. I will then give you a price indication based on the artist, quality, condition and current demand in the market. If you only need a valuation, for example for insurance or an estate, an independent valuer is the right person to ask.
How can I sell my art safely?
Start by sending photographs; that commits you to nothing. Only if the work is of interest do we speak in person and arrange a viewing. With consignment, all arrangements are set out in a written agreement and you remain the owner until the work is sold. All information is treated in confidence.
Do you collect the artwork?
Yes. Once we have reached an agreement, I collect the work from you, wherever you live in the Netherlands. Smaller works can also be sent by post, and transport by a specialist art courier is possible too. We agree in advance on the option that suits you best.
