Guus Hellegers has developed into an artist with an impressive oeuvre of many medals and large and small sculptures in bronze or stone. Many of his sculptures can also be found in public spaces, including in Rotterdam, The Hague, Emmen, Franeker, Eindhoven and many other places. Hellegers studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (1959-1964), as a student of Dirk Bus, Henri van Haaren and Gerrit Noordzij, among others. He received a grant with which he studied for a year at the National Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp, after which he returned to The Hague. In 1972, Hellegers settled with his family in Friesland.
