Wim Bosma

Amsterdam 1902-1985

Willem (Wim) Bosma was a Dutch painter, watercolourist, graphic designer, monumental artist and muralist. He was self-taught but did receive lessons from Piet van Wijngaerdt.
Bosma had a studio at Stadhouderskade 100 in Amsterdam.

He painted and watercoloured and also made murals. His paintings often have ships and harbours as subjects, but also "new technology" such as aircraft or industry. He also made many paintings of African women. He was a great lover of jazz music. His work is very well-known and the most famous are, for example, the stations and harbours from the thirties, painted in a new-objective, realistic style. Wim Bosma was a communist and therefore did not become a member of the cultural chamber.

Work by Wim Bosma has been purchased by the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and private collectors.
