About this sculpture

Eline Vere, this beautiful, elegant bronze sculpture was created by renowned sculptor Theo van der Nahmer. The large statue, which stands in The Hague, was commissioned in the 1950s by the municipality of The Hague in memory of Louis Couperus. Van der Nahmer drew inspiration for this sculpture from the main character in the eponymous novel by The Hague author Louis Couperus, "Eline Vere," published in 1889.

This smaller version of the iconic statue shows Eline Vere in an elegant, timeless pose that captures the refined yet tragic essence of Couperus' character.
