Houbolt lived and worked in The Hague, but also stayed in Paris and Bruges. Student of the Academy for B.K. in The Hague (1905-1908). Houbolt painted, drew and etched portraits, nudes, biblical scenes, also still lifes and landscapes, but is nevertheless very well known for his drawings of village streets and districts of Delft, Rijswijk and The Hague. He was a member of the Hague Sketch Club, and of the Dutch Art Circle. From 1924 Houbolt lived in Paris for several years. After Paris, Houbolt lived in Belgium for a while, returning to The Hague in 1939.
A number of his works are in the possession of Stichting Museum Rijswijk (South Holland).
