Kees Verkade studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and made a name for himself, mainly. In addition to his sculptures, Kees Verkade also made colorful gouaches, lithographs and silkscreen prints. He was nicknamed "the court artist of Monaco".

Kees Verkade's sculptures are characterized by figurative representations of people in motion. Sculptures of playing children, athletes, dancers and lovers are characteristic of his oeuvre. Verkade's sculptures have received international recognition and are in many corporate and private collections, as well as in various museums at home and abroad.

But his work can also be found in public spaces, including in the municipalities of Haarlem, Zandvoort, Groningen, Amsterdam and Drachten.
