About this drawing

This portrait of Mirjam, created in 1945, demonstrates André Verhorst's skill as a draughtsman and his sensitivity in capturing the human face. Executed in pencil with red and white chalk, the work showcases his mastery of the trois crayons technique, a classical drawing method that allows for subtle modelling of form and delicate rendering of skin tones.

Created during the final year of World War II, the portrait reflects Verhorst's continued dedication to figurative art and portraiture during a turbulent period. Signed and dated lower left 'André/Verhorst/'45'.
